X-dance 13 ended last night with an awards ceremony honoring the world’s best action sports films this year. In his acceptance speech for Best Film at X-Dance 13, Steve Fisher briefly described the process of getting his film “Congo: The Grand Inga Project” produced. The film is about navigating the world’s most dangerous rapids on the Congo River in Africa – a feat which had never been done before without loss of life. He related that he had been working for several years on getting the Congo expedition funded but was told that he must first prove himself as a filmmaker by winning a festival award. With the same determination used to organize and complete expeditions, he threw himself into filmmaking and completed “The Halo Effect” which won Best Adventure Film at X-Dance in 2011. The next day he got a call from Red Bull saying the Congo expedition was a go. After accepting the Best film award he thanked both X-Dance and Red Bull for their part in making the film possible.

Since childhood, as a wide-eyed 7-year-old ski jumper with a dream of Olympic flight, Lindsey Van, of Park City has been an outsider in a man’s world. Thrust into a fight that’s far bigger than her dreams, larger than ski jumping or even sport, Lindsey and her teammates fight to prove that women deserve to compete at the highest level: in the Winter Olympics. This powerful true story tells a tale of sacrifice and determination, of pluck and tragedy, as a very special group of unlikely heroes triumphs over massive obstacles to achieve a dream and change the world for other women in the process.

WE A Collection of Individuals is a compelling story surrounding the life and times of the modern day skier. It has long been thought that skiing was an individual sport, however the story of WE proves that this idea is nothing more than a fallacy. Skiing is an art, a collaborative effort that takes the energy of many. Even though skiing encompasses many different venues and styles the core remains within the crew of individuals that help scout, build, transport, struggle, and keep each other safe. WE follows the season of the most influential skiers as they travel the world in search of epic powder lines, tackling the streets, and creative park features. Together this collection of individuals becomes WE.
